You have to love our meteorologists – they forecast cloudy with precipitation and the actual weather can be seen on the photos below. Anyway, a sauna relaxation was quickly replaced with a photo trip to one of Slovenia’s natural wonders – Cerknica lake. If you are wondering what’s so special about this lake – it’s intermittent (disappearing) and is filled with water in late winter/ spring and during times of strong rainfall. The lakebed is karstic terrain which enables it to appear and disappear. When full of water, it is the largest lake in Slovenia and reaching around 38 sq km.
When clock stops ticking and time stands still
A tranquil image of the lake can be deceptive
just a reflection of beautiful skies and Slivnica summit in the background
And just to give you an idea how the lake looks from Slivnica

that’s sad.
Hi! You probably misread – the lake is not like disappearing forever – it is appearing and disappearing annualy for centuries, that is why it is so special
Nice pictures! I’ve only been there when the lake was not much more than a puddle.
thank you very much! Though I live in Slovenia, it was my first to visit the Cerknica during the lake “season” – and it is amazing to see
